Here Comes 2024

2023 was not the worst that it could have been.

In fact, a lot of 2023 for me went well, or at least, consistent. Some things have started to rear their head health wise, and a couple left field happenings, but overall, it was a forward year. It started rough losing Gandalph (the cat) so close to losing Nacho (the cat), and I think we all in house Skinnelson (including Gidget (the cat)) still feel that.

I wrote A LOT in 2023, probably hadn’t written that much in a year since 2009-2010, when I wrote Sacrifice. It felt great, and the second round of developmental edits on The Crumbling Kingdom popped back in to the in-box this week, so that is a great way to end the year. I am looking to continue that trend in 2024.

Anthology did well. Brick Cave struggled, but it was my own doing. Hands off the wheel most of the year (which is probably over self harsh, but there you go).

What’s in store?

Well, in 2024 you should get to see some of what I’ve written in 2023, and I’ve already mind explored the trajectory for the second book, so I will get words done on that. There is also another manuscript that I had started in 2023 that I liked and will move forward as well.

Personally, I need to travel a bit more. I keep threatening a trip to the East Coast, and I think I need to make that happen in the new year. I have also recommitted to hosting my own podcast for the new year and I have some ideas with some parts already in place that I would like to move forward.

But mostly, 2024 will be about moving forward. The long term impacts of the pandemic, culturally, emotionally and physically should not be ignored. It is going to take time for things to truly move forward. There’s always the next unknown coming, the next unseen event or circumstance that is always lurking.

Here’s to making the most of the time that is given to us.
